THE AUSTRALIAN RACING BOARD
The Principal Thoroughbred Racing Authorities in each State have, by consensual
agreement, bound themselves together to form a peak national administration body which is
now known as the Australian Racing Board.
The most important function of the Board is to ensure that Thoroughbred Racing throughout
Australia is conducted according to the same general practices, conditions and levels of
integrity. This commonality is achieved by each Principal Racing Authority agreeing to abide
by and to enforce the Australian Rules of Racing.
Both NARA and the NSRA have discussed proposed changes to the ARB Rules Of Racing
with the ARB, Queensland Racing Board and Racing Victoria Ltd. over the last 2 years. In
July 2005 the ARB announced changes to Rule AR6 which allow persons licensed under the
ARB Rules of Racing, ie Thoroughbred Licensed Persons, to participate in other codes of
racing. This is a major change to the TB Rules of Racing and the way in which the
Thoroughbred industry now views Alternate Racing Codes in Australia.
NARA has adopted the Australian Rules of Racing as the model (with minor amendments)
under which all Alternate Racing (Arabian & Sprint Racing) is conducted in Australia. As
detailed elsewhere on this website, minor amendments have been made to the ARB
"Model" Rules to suit the needs of Australian Arabian Racing.
The Australian Rules of Racing as amended from time to time can be found on the following
website.
